Thayer's Gull, Alger Co.
4/30/05 While passing through Munising this afternoon, I stopped and did a quick check of the waterfront. Not too much on the bay but I did have an adult Thayer's Gull behind the Sunset Motel on the west side of Munising Bay. Apparently Scott Hickman also saw this bird this morning as well and is probably the same one that was present a week or so ago. Also of note was a single Red-necked Grebe at this location. ~Skye Haas |

Summer Tanager, Harvey; Marq. CO.
4/28/05 Carol Johnson has had a Summer Tanager at her feeders for about ten days now. It was seen this evening, about 30 minutes before I arrived. Saddly I wasn't able to catch up with this bird tonight, but I will look again in the morning. Carol said birders are welcome to come see the bird. She lives at 142 Aspen off of Cherry Creek road in Harvey. I'll post up any update there is tomorrow. ~Skye Haas |

Red-necked Grebe
4/26/05 I took a drive along the Dead River Basin this evening. Deer Lake along North Basin Rd. had quite a few waterbirds in it. The suprise was a Red-necked Grebe on Deer Lake. Also present were a pair of Common Loons, and lots of small flocks of Lesser Scaup, Ring-necked Ducks, Bufflehead and both Hooded and Common Mergansers. There were quite a few Green-winged Teal on the bog ponds along the Basin Rd. ~Skye Haas |

Northern Saw-whet Owl
4/25/05 I spent the day hiking and birding near our cabin along the Middle Branch Escanaba river. As I was walking in a dense Black Spruce forest, I heard several Black-capped Chickadees and one Ruby-crowned Kinglet calling excitedly. It sounded as if they were mobbing something. After looking around the area, the birds revealed to me a Northern Saw-whet Owl near the top of a young Black Spruce. Zach Gayk |
