Boreal Bird Field Trip to the Peshekee Grade
|
Greg Cleary and Skye Haas will be leading a field trip to the Peshekee Grade on Saturday, November 12th, in search of winter finches and boreal specialties like Grey Jay, Black-backed Woodpecker, Pine Grosbeak, Crossbills, Redpolls and of course, Boreal Chickadees.
The Peshekee Grade is located in northwestern Marquette County, and goes through some of the more scenic and wild sections of the UP. It has some of the better boreal bog forest habitat in the area, and we hope to see at least a few of our target species. We will be meeting in the parking lot on 4th and Spring Streets by the Susan Walters building in Marquette at 7 am. We will then be car-pooling out to the Peshekee Grade which is a little over 30 minutes west of Marquette. Plan on doing some hiking on this outing, but we'll spare you all from any sort of death march. |

LWAS Special Event - Joe Rogers Live Raptors Up Close
|
|
Laughing Whitefish Audubon Society presents a special program by Joe Rogers of the Wildlife Recovery Association, Wednesday, November 2 at 6:30pm at Bothwell Middle School Cafeteria, 1200 Tierney St., Marquette. Mr. Rogers will present a program featuring live hawks, owls, and a vulture he has nursed back to health. Due to their injuries, they cannot be returned to the wild. His up-close manner allows everybody a great look at each bird in the program. Great for kids! |
