Marquette Christmas Bird Count

The 59th annual Marquette Christmas Bird Count will take place Saturday, December 16. The Marquette count circle covers a 7.5-mile radius centered on the old City Hall at 4th and Washington. The circle boundries are roughly Little Presque Isle on the north, the old airport in Negaunee Twp. on the west, Goose Lake on the southwest, and the east end of Lakewood Lane in Harvey.

Birders of all skill levels are welcome to participate by joining a team of birders in one of our four count areas, or by counting birds at their home feeders if located in the count circle.

Meet at either 7:45-8:00 am at the Donut Hole on S. Front St., or at Lower Harbor Park from 8-8:30 am. Participants will be divided into teams at the park. No pre-registration is necessary for the regular count, but feeder counters should pre-register and receive a tally sheet at the December LWAS meeting or by contacting the compilers in advance. A fee of $5 is charged for all participants, except those individuals who are 18 years of age or under, and those counting at feeders only.

For more information, come to the December LWAS meeting or contact Greg Cleary gcleary(at)provide.net or Melinda Stamp mstamp(at)chartermi.net.
